Johnathan O’Neal is a 6-foot, 175-pound safety and wide receiver for La Jolla High School, where he played for coach Tyler Roach. O’Neal earned two varsity letters playing football.
The ball-hawking defender and team captain in 2017 led the league in interceptions (5) and was named to the All-City League First-Team Defense for his efforts.
Priding himself on academics, O’Neal amassed a 4.5 cumulative GPA, including a 5.0 GPA the last three semesters. The AP Scholar with distinction achieved a perfect 36 on the ACT and scored a 1,550 out of 1,600 on the SAT. He was awarded the varsity football Scholar of the Year award and was a San Diego Union-Tribune All-Academic Team selection.O’Neal also served as the treasurer of the Vikings for Veterans.
He plans to attend Tufts University, where he aspires to major in applied mathematics. In his free time, O’Neal enjoys playing pickup basketball, taking batting practice or playing around on the lacrosse field. Johnathan is the son of Carlton O’Neal and Allison Widmier.
