Ivan Avalos


Ivan Avalos is a 5-foot-11, 145-pound defensive back and kick returner for Vincent Memorial Catholic High School, where he played for head coach David Wong. Avalos earned two varsity letters playing soccer and one playing football.

      Avalos, the 2017 Manzanita League Defensive Player of the Year, compiled 91 tackles and had six interceptions. He totaled 345 yards as a kick returner, helping the Scots capture a league title, the San Diego Section Division V crown and a CIF Southern California Regional Division 6-A championship.

Off the field, Avalos carried a 4.41 GPA and was named an AP Scholar with Honors in 2017. He received independent recognition awards for AP psychology and geometry at Vincent Memorial. Avalos participates in several clubs and regularly tutors peers. He has had several community service experiences, including assisting at a local elementary school, donating food and clothing to an orphanage near his home in Mexico and serving food to the homeless at the Salvation Army in El Centro, CA.

Avalos is undecided on where he will attend college, but aspires to major in a science such as astronomy. He enjoys playing video games, reading and hanging out with friends. Ivan is the son of Ricardo and Rosa Avalos.
